September 2025 Updates & Notices

September 2025 Updates & Notices

Dear InThinking subscribers

Welcome to the September Newsletter!

As the new academic year begins, teachers are reminded that Cambridge Assessment International Education has launched the new IGCSE syllabus for first teaching, with exams commencing in 2027. We are excited to announce that resources for the first 20 chapters of the new syllabus are now live on the InThinking IGCSE website! These sections include over 150 000 words of updated content, all designed to support you and your students through the new specification, including:

  • an updated e-book
  • engaging lesson activities, assessment guidance (top tips and common mistakes to avoid in the exams)
  • worked examples for Paper 1 and Paper 2
  • interactive Quizlets
  • exam-style questions and mark schemes.

New content is being added each week, throughout the year.

You can find details of all changes to the new syllabus here.

This video on YouTube might be useful to watch.

Other updates

Updates to the website for the new syllabus include interactive Quizlet activities. Students can choose their preferred Quiz format from the drop down menu (Flashcards, Match, Learn, Test, and/or Spell) to revise in fun and engaging ways:

  • Topic 2.4 (Price determination) here.
  • Topic 2.9.2 (Terms associated with market failure) here (scroll to the bottom of the site page).
  • Topic 2.10.3 (Government intervention to address market failure) here.

Other updates to the website include:

  • The completed sections for Topic 1 (The basic economic problem), Topic 2 (The allocation of resources), and 3 (Microeconomic decision-makers) of the new syllabus can be accessed here.
  • A new interactive True or False Quiz for Topic 2.6 (Price elasticity of demand) can be accessed here. There is also a PDF version that you can download to use in class with your students.
  • A new interactive definitions quiz for Unit 3.5.5 (Economies and diseconomies of scale) has been added here (scroll down to the "Quiz - Types of economies of scale" tab).
  • If you have not come across "The Arctic Island Survival Game (an introduction to IGCSE Economics)" activity on InThinking, please take a look here. This is a tried and tested lesson activity to get students really excited about studying IGCSE Economics. There isn't too much to prepare, and I am confident your students will be talking positively about this for many months ahead.

Did you know that your InThinking IGCSE Economics students can have completely free access to the website once you have activated Student Access? You can also register other teachers in your school to gain access to the website, which is updated every week, 52 weeks a year. Content on the website now exceeds 610 000 words. To put this into context, the 320-page Cambridge-endorsed IGCSE Economics textbook (3rd edition), published by Hachette Learning, contains approximately 150 500 words. The annual subscription therefore represents extremely good value for money and will save you hundreds of hours of planning.

There are several key functions to Student Access:

  • Students have access to all notes related to the contents of the course. Essentially, they can use the website as a comprehensive e-textbook for the entire course.
  • It allows students to directly access most, but not all, pages (such as examination papers and mark schemes, as well as other teacher support materials).
  • It enables teachers to create tasks for their students (refer to the Smart Quizzes section of the website).
  • It helps to consolidate student learning and facilitates revision (such as the Paper 1 MCQ tasks, which all come with answers that have explanations).
  • It allows teachers to monitor the progress of their students using the grade book.

To get started, go to the Student Access tab in the top left corner of the home page.

Social media engagement

At the time of writing, there are 312 teachers in our InThinking IGCSE Economics WhatsApp group, with members asking questions and sharing ideas and resources on a regular basis. What we ask for is that all members check their WhatsApp privacy settings to ensure their full name and a suitable profile picture are on display - this is simply so that we all know who we are communicating with.

We have 431 teachers in our Facebook group. Feel free to join these groups as we transition to teaching the new IGCSE Economics syllabus. You can also access all discussions and resources shared in the Facebook group after joining.

New milestones

At the beginning of this month, we welcomed Step By Step School, India, as the 59th school to join the InThinking IGCSE Economics community. Jayita De and Prakash Sinha from the school become our 144th and 145th registered teachers to use the website. We also reached a record 824 students using the website - free of charge. At InThinking, we are extremely appreciative of your ongoing support. 🙏

Finally, we know at InThinking that the strength and growth of the community of teachers using our sites rely on word of mouth. If you are enjoying the website, please share your insights through your own social networks. We are certainly keen on hearing from you, guiding the site's future developments. Testimonials for the InThinking IGCSE Economics website can be found here.

In addition to IGCSE Economics, there are existing InThinking IGCSE websites for:

  • Geography - authored by Paul Christmas

  • History - authored by Jo Thomas and Keely Rogers

  • Business - authored by Mark Johnson

These site authors are all outstanding educators and experts in their respective subjects. Please share the details with your colleagues if your school offers any of these IGCSE subjects.

Wishing you all the best for a great new academic year ahead.

Paul Hoang
