Getting started

Getting started - Welcome

Welcome to the InThinking IGCSE Economics website!

The website is designed to help teachers and students to achieve success in the following qualifications:

The study of economics focuses on how scarce resources are organised in a world that faces many challenging economic and environmental issues. The InThinking website will help teachers to create and deliver a successful IGCSE Economics course in their schools by:

  • Addressing all learning outcomes of the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) syllabus.

  • Including detailed notes as an e-book covering the entire course (teachers can activate Student Access to enable their students to use the website as an e-book).

  • Providing guidance on all aspects of the Cambridge IGCSE Economics assessment, i.e., both Paper 1 (Multiple Choice) and Paper 2 (Structured Questions).

  • Giving teachers ideas for delivering engaging lessons and learning experiences for students, including group activities, interactive quizzes, worksheets, embedded videos, exam practise questions, and mock examination papers (with full mark schemes).

  • Providing students with a range of resources to assist with their revision, such as key terms glossaries and flashcards, covering all six sections of the CAIE IGCSE Economics course:

  1. The basic economic problem

  2. The allocation of resources

  3. Microeconomic decision makers

  4. Government and the macro economy

  5. Economic development

  6. International trade and globalisation

Student Access

Teachers can activate Student Access to give their learners free access to the website. There are several key functions to this:

  • Student have access to all notes related to the contents of the course. Essentially, they can use the website as a e-textbook for the entire course.

  • It allows students to directly access most, but not all, pages (such as examination papers and mark schemes, as well as other teacher support materials).

  • It enables teachers to create tasks for their students (refer to Smart Quizzes section of the website).

  • It helps to consolidate student learning and facilitates revision (such as the Paper MCQ tasks, which all come with answers that have explanations).

  • It allows teachers to monitor the progress of their students using the grade book.

To get started, go to the Student Access tab in the top left corner of the home page.

The website is organised in syllabus order (subject content) as per the above six sections, including detailed notes for the entire syllabus. Hence, it can be used as an e-book for students.

There is also coverage of all other aspects of delivering a successful IGCSE Economics course, including:

  • Paper 1 – Multiple choice questions

  • Paper 2 – Structured questions

  • Examination practice questions

  • Top tips for revision and examination techniques

  • Common mistakes to avoid

  • Command words

  • Monthly updates and notices are also sent to all Newsletter subscribers to help teachers and students see the latest additions to the IGCSE website.

Above all, learning IGCSE Economics should be fun, relevant, and engaging for students. This website is designed to help teachers and students to overcome the many challenges of the Cambridge IGCSE® and O Level courses so that they can achieve success. In particular, the website is designed to encourage students to develop a real passion for Economics and its role in the real world.

Economics is crucial to the future wellbeing of all societies and economies, every student will eventually work in an organisation affected by economics, irrespective of the field or industry they end up in. Hence, IGCSE and O Level Economics provides a great platform and stepping stone for our students in their pursuit of their future goals.

With very best wishes,

Paul Hoang
