Welcome to the February 2024 Updates and Notices - and Happy Lunar New Year!
Please see below for some of the latest updates to the InThinking IGCSE Economics website.
For Unit 1.2.1 - The factors of production, a new video and exam tip for what makes a successful entrepreneur (using the RISER acronym) can be found here. The video features entrepreneurs in the UK who have turned music festivals into money-making opportunities. There is also a new "Guess the Entrepreneur Quiz" added to this section of the website. A new video documentary called "The Real Founder (of McDonald's)" has also been added to this section of the site, along with accompanying questions that students can answer whilst they watch this video. There are suggested answers included for teachers.
A new inquiry activity for Unit 5.2.3 - Policies to alleviate poverty and redistribute income, based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 1, has been added here.
A new worksheet for Unit 6.2.2 - Role of multinational companies has been added here. It is based on the CNBC video documentary "Big Mac: Inside the McDonald’s Empire" about the growth and evolution of McDonald’s, one of the world's largest multinational companies. There are 25 accompanying questions for students, along with suggested answers for teachers.
There are two additional video documentaries with student tasks for those teaching/reviewing Unit 6.2.2 (MNCs) here. These focus on KFC and Lego.
A new set of Paper 1 MCQ for Unit 6.4 has been added here. Answers are provided to support your students' understanding of this topic.
Did you know the New Zealand government has made a U-turn on its plans to ban the purchase of cigarettes for people born after 1st January 2009? What are the economic reasons for this? Read more here. I have also added some Paper 2 exam practice questions linked to this news.
Finally, advice and top tips for calculation questions for the Paper 2 exams have been added here.
