January 2024 Updates and Notices
Welcome to the first Updates and Notices of 2024!
I hope you all had a restful holiday season.
As with all InThinking IB and IGCSE websites, the InThinking IGCSE Economics site is updated every week, 52 weeks a year. Some of the recent additions to the site are highlighted below:
Context is vital for helping students to improve their understanding of Economics. To this effect, some real world examples of how businesses attempt to reduce the impact or opportunity cost of queuing times can be found here. So economics is behind why mirrors have long been used in places with lifts (elevators), such as in hotels and department stores. What other examples might your students be able to come up with?
A new video documentary with an accompanying worksheet and answers have been added here for Unit 2.7.5 (Significance of price elasticity of demand), which looks at why Rolls-Royce cars are so expensive. Not that I am talking from personal experience (unfortunately), but did you know you can choose from over 44,000 different colours when buying a new Rolls-Royce?!
A new exam practice question for Unit 3.5.5 (Economies and diseconomies of scale) has been added here to support students with this challenging part of the syllabus.
Additional Paper 2 exam-style questions for Unit 3.7.2 (Calculation of costs of production) have been added here. https://www.thinkigcse.net/
economics/page/47590/372- calculation-of-costs-of- production An additional 15 MCQs for Unit 4.3 (Fiscal policy) have been added here. https://www.
thinkigcse.net/economics/page/ 52857/unit-43-paper-1-exam- practice-questions-3. There are now 55 multiple choice questions in total for this commonly examined topic in the IGCSE syllabus. Each question comes with a concise explanation to support students’ comprehension and understanding. A new Paper 2 question for Unit 5.3.1 (The factors that affect population growth) based on Taiwan's attempts to encourage higher birth rates has been added here, along with the mark scheme.
Finally, the glossary of key terms for the Cambridge IGCSE Economics course has been updated. It may be beneficial for students to bookmark this page on the website to support their learning of the subject. The comprehensive glossary will also support students in their revision and preparation for in-class assessments and external exams.

Finally, we know at InThinking that the strength and growth of the community of teachers using our sites rely on word of mouth. If you are enjoying the website, please share your insights through your own social networks. We are certainly keen on hear from you, which will help to guide the website's future developments. Testimonials for the InThinking IGCSE Economics can be found here.
In addition to IGCSE Economics, there are existing websites for IGCSE Geography and IGCSE History. There are more IGCSE subjects in the pipeline as well.
On the final day of 2023, we had 72 teachers registered on the website along with 647 students (who all get to enjoy free access). Many thanks for your ongoing support; it is very much appreciated.
Wishing you and your students all the very best for the new year ahead!
