The Korean War was fought between 1950 and 1953. It was one of the most brutal conflicts of the second half of the 20th century. There were almost 3 million deaths and a higher proportion of those killed were civilians than in the Second World War. Atrocities were committed by both sides. We will consider here how the war was fought and the role of the North and South Koreans, the UN, the US and the PRC.
