5. To what extent was the First World War a world war?

On these pages you will explore the extent to which the First World War was a world war.

You will investigate the importance of the role of Indian and Canadian troops on the western front and the contribution of Indian and South African troops in Africa.   Japan also played a significant role in the allied victory, defeating the Germans in the siege of Tsingtao and providing naval assistance in securing Allied shipping lanes.  In addition, we will explore the impact of the Arab Revolt in the defeat of Germany's ally, the Ottomans.
