1. Case Study 1: Events in Korea 1950 - 1953
The Korean War was the first ‘hot war’ of the Cold War era and it had far-reaching consequences. It was not a war that the US had expected to fight at any stage before 1950. In this unit we will look at events in Korea, why the US and the United Nations intervened in the conflict and the extent to which this intervention was a success for the policy of containment.
