In 1933, Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany; by 1934 he had managed to secure total power for himself and his Nazi Party. This was to have profound consequences for the people of Germany. However, it also had important consequences for Europe as a whole. This was because Hitler had very clear aims with regard to restoring Germany"s position in Europe following the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles.
